The Aumenau Fossil Site was discovered by the Founderess of the Emmershausen Waldmuseum and Patroness of the CID Institute, Mrs. Rosemarie Elisabeth Zanger-Klinge during her numerous nature excursiones into the Lahn River Valley that she led together with her husband Rolf since the early 1970ies. It must be situated near the "House of Nature Friends" on the Southern Lahn River Bank between Aumenau and Villmar. The fossil objects found there are mostly mineralized stems of sea-lilies or crinoids (Echinodermata : Crinoidea), composed by a column of highly porous ossicles. The crinoid stem segments are found embedded densely in a fragile conglomerate stone layer.
